Carpet Cleaning and Upholstery Cleaning

What type of cleaning method do you use?

We use the most recommended method by carpet and upholstery manufacturers, the Hot Water Extraction Method more commonly known as Steam Cleaning. Using pressure and steam from truck-mounted and portable systems we are able to extract harmful bacteria and dust trapped within your carpet fibers.

Do you use truck mount or portable machines?

Our technicians are equipped with both portable and truck mounted hot water extraction systems. The appropriate system will be used based on the access available for your home. Truck mount is generally not available for apartment and condo steam cleaning.

How long do carpets and upholstery take to dry?

Dry time varies by carpet and upholstery style, thickness and other factors such as ventilation and airflow, however most carpets and upholstered furniture dries within 8-24 hours.

What type of chemicals do you use?

We use eco-friendly products that are kid and pet friendly. If certain problem areas require a more abrasive treatment our technicians will advise and treat that specific area with your permission.

Do you move furniture?

Yes. Our technicians will move all furniture that can be safely moved. However we will not move items such as pianos, china cabinets, bed frames, large mirrors, shelves, etc.

Do you remove all spots and stains?

We cannot guarantee removal of all spots and stains. Our technicians are trained to assess bad areas and use a specialized solution to remove stubborn stains and spots. However, many substances cause permanent discoloration of carpet and upholstery fibers and cannot be removed. In most cases, these bad spots are lightened and disinfected so that you can still enjoy your carpeted areas.

How can I ensure my carpets stay protected?

Regular cleaning with HEPA certified vacuum and tending to spot and spill immediately is generally a good a way to maintain your carpets. Furthermore, you can protect your carpets by employing our Stain Shield services after steam cleaning. This protective seal will ensure your fibers will resist future oil and water based spills, allowing you to simply blot away spills.

Do you clean all types of upholstery?

We can clean most cloth and fabric based furniture. Certain types of material however, may require a different method and we can advise accordingly.

What will happen to my protective coating I purchased with my furniture?

While having your furniture professionally cleaned will impact the coating, dust and debris that builds up on the surface due to daily use is already causing this coating to deteriorate. To keep your upholstery protected, ask our technicians to use our Upholstery Stain Shield after the cleaning to add another layer of protection.

Area Rug Cleaning

Do you clean all type of rugs?

Yes. We do clean all types of rugs but the methods vary depending on type of rug.

Can you clean my rugs at my house?

Unless the rug is synthetic we cannot generally clean any rugs on site and require it to be picked up and brought to our facility.

How much is pick up and delivery?

Free. Our drivers will pick up and deliver at no additional charge.

How long does it typically take?

7-10 days to be delivered back. Repairs and custom stain removal services may increase the time.

Can you pick up my rugs if I am not home?

Yes. You may leave the rug to be picked up from accessible area or concierge if in a building.

Do you charge extra for stains?

In most cases we do not charge extra. However, there are certain types of stains that may not be fully removed off during the cleaning process and may require additional treatments. If this is the case we will reach out and advise on cost and process.

Can you clean my Antique, Persian, Oriental, Silk, and other fine rugs?

Yes. These rugs are hand washed and receive special care by experienced technicians. Each process is specific to the type of rug and we will determine which route is best during our assessment.

Commercial Services

Tile and Grout

Why should I get my tile and grout cleaned?

Regular mopping only removes surface soil and not the embedded dirt that causes the grout to be unattractive. Professional cleaning restores the look of your tile and grout and extends its life.

How do you clean my tile and grout area?

We use a high power rotary machine. We also employ the same high-pressure steam cleaning method for carpets on the tile and grout with a specific cleaning agent.

How often should I have my tile and grout cleaned?

This depends on several factors such as foot traffic, environment, type of floor, etc. On average our clients will refresh their floors every 12-36 months.

How long will it take?

This can vary based on a number of factors including the size of the tile, amount of soil in the grout lines, and room configuration. If you choose to have sealant added, it typically takes a bit longer complete the entire process.

Should I have my grout lines sealed?

Grout is very porous, which means it will soak up any spills. With that said it is ideal to have your grout sealed to ensure a protective barrier that prevents any stains from soaking in.

Floor Strip and Waxing

How long until we can use the floors?

You can use most floors within 2-3 hours of the last coat of wax drying.

Do we need to clear the floor of all items?

Yes. Other than the large hard to move furniture, everything should be moved. Otherwise it may be obvious where the item was sitting in comparison to the rest of the floor.

What is the process?

Stripping involves removing all previous coats of wax to the bare tile. We then re-apply several glossy coatings to make your floors shine and look new.

How many coats of wax are applied?

This depends on the floor but on average between 2-6 coats.

How shiny will the floors look?

High gloss finish will make your floors look wet.

How long will the wet look last?

This depends on your level of regular care coupled with factors such as foot traffic, and environment.

What is the difference between stripping and waxing compared to scrubbing and re-coating?

Stripping the floor to the bare tile is the removal of all layers of wax and then re-applying several coats to build up the floor back to standard. Scrubbing involves removing the top layers of wax only, which are dirty and re-coating on top. This process capitalizes on previous clean layers of wax and reduces costs for you as less material is used and floors are less damaged.

How often should I get my floors stripped and waxed?

If you are on a maintenance plan with us and we scrub and re-coat periodically, floors can last a long time before being stripped entirely to the bare tile. Again this will vary on several factors such as the amount of traffic your floors see and the environment.

What should I use to clean my vinyl floors regularly?

Use a neutral pH cleaner to service your floors on a regular basis in between our visits. You should avoid cleaning vinyl floors with ammonia or bleach. High-pH detergents are corrosive and can damage the flooring.

Water Damage Restoration

How do I get in touch with someone after hours during an emergency?

By simply calling 416 755 2528 you will be automatically routed to our emergency technician after business hours.

My house is flooded! Should I call my insurance company first?

No. As a matter of fact, your insurance company would prefer you call a water damage restoration company to begin water clean up and fix water damage as soon as possible. The faster our crews arrive, the more destruction we can prevent, which decreases restoration costs and protects your home from further house flood damage. You still want to call your insurance company to make a claim, but you should not wait for an adjuster to arrive before calling a professional company to fix water damage.

What can I expect in this situation?

You will speak with a certified restoration specialist very soon after your call. Then we’ll do the following to help you reclaim your home.

  • Advise you of what to do to minimize damage until our crew arrives.
  • Dispatch certified, trained, and experienced water damage crews to your home within three hours or less.
  • Pump out freestanding water quickly, and then extract water from carpet, padding, and upholstery.
  • Remove carpet and padding if deemed necessary. We will then clean, dry, and reinstall carpet and padding based on IICRC standards.
  • Provide professional grade equipment for a controlled drying process of your home and its contents—this minimizes the possibility of secondary damage and potential microbial growth.
  • Use specialized instruments to locate hidden pockets of water and to technically monitor the dehumidification/drying process.
  • Work directly with your insurance company to process claims and get your home back to normal as soon as possible.
  • Make sure your home’s structure and contents are dry, to the recommended industry standards for your area.
How long does it take for mould to form after a flood?

It depends on what kind of material has been affected. For instance, carpet has a very short period of about two days before carpet pad needs to be removed. Drywall on the other hand usually takes about a week to establish. It is important to keep in mind that the drying process may take several days. Waiting may not give you enough time to dry a specific material within the time allotted.

My insurance company wants me to use one of their approved contractors. Will this be a problem if I don’t use their contractor?

It is your right to be able to choose your contractor. At Toronto Steam n’ Clean, we use the same billing processes and standards as most insurance companies and are accustomed to working with your company to reach an agreement.

What are the major causes of flood damage and water damage?

Water damage can be caused by a variety of factors, requiring you to find a reliable company to fix water damage. Some of these include heavy rainstorms, burst or leaky pipes and malfunctioning appliances. Floods can also occur as a result of roof leaks and from defective gutters and downspouts, which can cause water damage in your basement or crawlspace.
